Tourist Family Streams on Jio Hotstar in Five Languages After Blockbuster Run

The heartwarming Tamil family drama “Tourist Family,” starring Sasikumar and Simran, made its highly anticipated digital debut on Jio Hotstar on June 2, 2025. After an impressive box office run—grossing over ₹83 crore in just under four weeks and outshining top contemporaries like Suriya’s “Retro”—this emotional comedy-drama is now available to stream in five languages: Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Malayalam, and Kannada, vastly widening its reach for diverse Indian audiences.

Directed by newcomer Abishan Jeevinth and produced by Million Dollar Studios and MRP Entertainment, “Tourist Family” tells the moving story of Das (Sasikumar), his wife Vasanthi (Simran), and their two sons, who flee escalating civil and political unrest in Sri Lanka to seek refuge in Tamil Nadu. With the support of Vasanthi’s brother Prakash, they settle in Chennai, assuming a Malayali identity to blend in and forge a stable new life. Their hopes for peace are soon disrupted when a bombing in Rameshwaram triggers a police crackdown targeting Sri Lankan Tamil refugees. As suspicions mount, Das faces agonizing decisions to keep his family safe, testing the limits of hope, identity, and resilience.

The film has garnered wide critical and public acclaim for its sensitive balance of humor and emotion, its timely themes of displacement and belonging, and standout performances—especially from Sasikumar in a role both stoic and deeply moving. Simran’s return to a meaty dramatic part has also earned special praise, while supporting actors like Yogi Babu, Ramesh Thilak, and M.S. Bhaskar lend authenticity and charm to the ensemble.

“Tourist Family’s” arrival on Hotstar was accompanied by exceptionally high demand, with early social media buzz and recommendations from celebrities including Rajinikanth, Sivakarthikeyan, and SS Rajamouli, who called the movie “a heartwarming film packed with rib-tickling humour.” The production’s delay in the OTT release was a direct result of its ongoing popularity in theaters—a rare feat in today’s digital-first market.

With its emotionally resonant storytelling, comedy-drama tonal balance, and themes of humanity triumphing over adversity, “Tourist Family” is being celebrated as one of 2025’s must-watch Indian films—ideal for both family binge sessions and viewers seeking meaningful cinema.
